How to put your logo on a QR code without breaking it

A QR code with your logo and colors looks more professional, but a few rules must be followed so it keeps working.

Why a QR code can take a logo

QR codes include repeated information to correct errors. Thanks to that, a QR code can still be read even if part of it is covered. When you add a logo, the tool automatically raises that correction to the highest level to make up for the hidden part.

Rules so it keeps scanning

  1. Small, centered logo. It shouldn't take up more than a third of the code's width.
  2. Simple design. A symbol or an initial works better than a logo with lots of detail or text.
  3. Leave the three corner squares alone. The phone uses them to find the code.
  4. High contrast. Dark dots on a light background. Light QR codes on dark backgrounds aren't read by every phone.
  5. Margin around it. Leave a clear border the same color as the background.

Brand colors

You can use your brand color for the dots as long as it's dark and contrasts with the background. The tool warns you if the contrast is low. The rounded and classy styles change the shape of the dots without affecting scanning.

Printing it

Always test it

Before printing hundreds of copies, scan it with several phones, in different lighting and from the real distance it will be used at.
